I am an opera singer who works out pretty consistently. There are some ab exercises that I swear when I try to sing long phrases, I have trouble with breath support for 24 hours! But then there are some ab machines at the gym, where I don’t have a problem at all after I work my abs. I am quite active with performing, and I don’t have time to fiddle with experimentation while I am performing. I need to find an answer, so I don’t continue to do certain exercises that cut off breath support during this back to back performing coming up. Am I don’t certain ab exercises wrong? What are the differences in the ones I am doing that don’t bother my breath support when I sing? OR should I do what a voice teacher told me years ago, which was never do ab exercises if you want to be an opera singer. I thought that advice was a joke, but was I wrong? I stay away from ab workouts a couple of days before performing, so I don’t have this problem. Any ideas for me?
TruthIsLight, I am so waiting for you to answer this question also since you are a trainer.
Opps. I had a typo. I meant to say am I doing ab exercises wrong. I put don’t by mistake. To the first one answerer, thank you for a great explaination. I never thought of it that way,
